Big isle catholics respond to Puna lava crisis

We are here to help those most in need … to help lift people up in our community. ~Brandee Menino, CEO, HOPE Services Hawaii

HOPE Services Hawaii is a  faith-based non-profit organization supported by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Honolulu and its Office for Social Ministry. Its main mission is to address and end homelessness. As ongoing eruptions continue to devastate the Puna district, we offer prayers,  resources and housing options to the families and residents in transition.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Be part of the solution to connect people with homes! Finding additional temporary or permanent housing is vital to address the needs of the community. If you have a vacation rental, spare bedroom or extra rental  housing, please visit KOKUA ALOHA LIVING website to register your available unit.

Make a donation to the Hawaii Community Foundation’s Hawaii Island Volcano Relief Fund.

Monies raised through this fund will be distributed to the entire collaborative network dedicated to relief and recovery.

Sacred Heart Pahoa Parish says “YES!”

Within the first week of the Kilauea eruptions, HOPE Services Hawaii responded immediately to the needs of evacuees and partnered with Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pahoa to provide a resource center for those being displaced. The parish youth ministry also mobilized quickly and is currently extending its social ministry and outreach with food pantry distributions and volunteer help at nearby shelters.

St. Joseph Hilo Parish puts faith into action!

In partnership with HOPE Services Hawaii, St. Joseph Church also opened its existing housing complex to provide emergency shelter for men and medically-frail senior citizens facing evacuation. The parish and staff are currently working with the Red Cross, HPD and the County of Hawaii Department of Parks & Recreation to assist in sheltering those in need.

Parish Social Ministry Food Pantries

HOPE Services Hawaii has established a growing network with catholic parishes round the Big Island to purchase, deliver and distribute food, water, supplies and non-perishable items to those most in need. If you have items to donate, please connect with your nearest catholic church.

We are all ONE ‘OHANA. Let us work together to provide food and housing for all and show those in need that Hawaii Catholics Care!
